
Since inherting her uncle's jeweling tools at the age of sixteen,
Chris Correia has worked diligently to master her craft.
After studying jewelry and metalsmithing in her native state at the Massachusetts
College of Art, she went on to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rhode
Island School of Design. Correia furthur honed her skills at the Fashion Institute
of Technology, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and the Gemological
Institute of America where she earned graduate gemologist certification in both
diamonds and colored gems.
Moving to Europe to perfect her technique, Chris enrolled in the work/study program at Sir
Johns Cass College of Art in London for a year, then on to Pforzheim, Germany for two
years of design and bench work.
Returning to New York City, Chris started her company, Chris Correia Collections,
in 1984. During the past ten years, Correia's talent has been recognized by the industry
with the Women's Jewelry Association bestowing it's "Excellence in
Design" award. As her most recent honor, Chris was the sole new jeweler elected
for 1995 to the American Jewelry Design Council, joining Henry Dunay, Jose hess,
David Yurman and it's twenty-six other members at the forefront of contemporary design.
