decoratively inscribed within the jewelry. These
inscribed pieces were found as early as classical times but reached their greatest
popularity historically in the 16th and 17th centuries. The posies or brief poems are
primarily in English or French, although the collection includes items inscribed in
German, Greek, Latin and Hebrew. Posy connects people, and especially people in love,
